Wormley Row
In mid-2005, Georgetown University sold this land for nearly $8.3 million with a historic, red-brick school building built in 1875 to Encore Development, who planned to convert the building into 9 condominium units with an average of 1,500 square feet. On the old playground and parking lot, the developer plans to construct 6 new row houses with 3,000 to 5,000 square feet of space plus an underground parking garage for the residences. Final plans were designed by the architecture firm of Cunningham-Quill.
Today, Wormley Row offers thirteen distinctive residences with a rich patina of history. Built in 1885, the Wormley School was named in honor of James Wormley (1819–1884), a nationally-renowned Washington entrepreneur who was a passionate advocate for the education of the city’s African-American children.*
Now renovated and preserved for future generations, the Wormley School has been brought back to life as the cornerstone of the Condominium Residences and Townhouses of Wormley Row. In one of Washington, D.C.’s oldest neighborhoods, thirteen new doors are opening.
Units are priced from $1,295,000 to $4,450,000.
