January 27, 2009 by jessebkaye

purple-lineThats right!  Today marks a historic event where Bethesda and Silver Spring will finally be connected.  Montgomery County voted unanimously for a light rail from Bethesda to New Carrolton.

The stops include:

  • Bethesda
  • Chevy Chase Lake
  • West Silver Spring
  • Woodside
  • Silver Spring
  • Long Branch
  • Takoma/Langley
  • Stadium/Arena
  • University of Maryland Campus Center
  • College Park
  • Riverdale
  • New Carrolton

The route is going to be 16 miles long and will cost over $1 billion to build.  The line is going to run directly along side the Capitol Crescent Trail into Silver Spring and a route the rest of the way to New Carrolton is currently being planned.
